Alice on the Other Side

Order Play / Back to Main Menu About the PlayMusical. Large, flexible ensemble cast. Multiple settings. About 100 minutes. Freely adapted from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass. SynopsisAll the favorite characters and 13 original songs make this a fun night out for the audience and an exciting challenge for young performers. Follow Alice as she wonders, and then investigates, what life is like on the other side of the looking glass. Is it more exciting? Will she be more important? Alice meets a host of colorful characters, including Humpty Dumpty, the White Knight, Tweedle Dee and Tweedly Dum, and a Lion and a Unicorn. She even briefly becomes Queen. Still, in the end she comes to realize that as exotic as it might be, the "other side" is no substitute for home. This is a big play, but it need not be daunting. The settings and costumes can be as elaborate as the creativity of your crew can make them, but they can also work more simply. The music is intended for young voices (Alice is the most challenging) and is fun, upbeat and as quirky as the lyrics, many of which are adapted directly from Carroll's poems. This play is still awaiting its first fully-staged production, and the playwright/composer is eager to work closely with the lucky producer who first takes it on.
