Here's a description of a project I did years ago at The Haverford School, when I was basically a rookie drama teacher. The project was so instructive (at times very painfully so) as well as successful, all in all that I wrote it up for inclusion in the original version of this site. I think it's still just as likely to be useful today. The project was to completely overhaul the 4th Grade "Class Play" so that, rather than the typical, pedagogically questionable recitation of memorized lines, it became a real play, conceived and written by the students, who thus were able to take real ownership in the process. For ease of navigation, this discussion is split into nine pages.
