Matt Buchanan

Click on any title below to see some samples of my writing. It has always been very important to me to know the audience for whom I am writing and to tailor my style accordingly, so the samples included here vary widely in style and in level of formality.

Why Teach Drama? A Defense of the Craft

An essay I wrote in support of adding Creative Drama classes to the curriculum at The Haverford School.

Artist-Centered Evaluation

The introduction to a long report entitled Artist-Centered Evaluation—An Approach to the Objective Grading of Creative Work, which I wrote after conducting a research project with my students in Alabama.

Ratings, Censorship, and Negative Criteria

An excerpt from a long essay entitled “What Should Children Watch?” about age appropriateness in theatre, film and television.

House Rules

The “House Rules” I compiled for users of the Performing Arts Center at St.Luke’s School.  They were intended for both internal events such as band or choral concerts and for outside organizations using our space.
